Reason for Pursuing CAPP Certification

I was inspired by several leaders within my organization and nearby peer institutions who became some of the first CAPPs in our region. I was very interested in growing in the profession and in my role at my university. Consequently, I was encouraged and fully supported to pursue CAPP as part of my professional development.

Roadblocks or Obstacles Overcome in the Journey to CAPP Certification

The sheer volume of industry material and resources to tackle was intimidating, but we forget we accumulate a lot of knowledge along the way. I say this now, however back then I felt overwhelmed with where to begin and how to get organized. The key for me was trusting myself with what I already knew, connecting with industry friends, peers and mentors who were eager to share their knowledge and approach. From there, I just dove in. The study sessions created camaraderie with the group of us testing and leading up to the exam, which was a tremendously rewarding experience.

Impact the Certification Has Made on Your Career

Aside from the sense of pride in obtaining the CAPP Certification, it has led me to being included, having that all important seat at the table within my organization, in addition to participating on industry boards and committees throughout the years. One of the highlights for me was becoming an inaugural member on the first CAPP Certification Board which spearheaded the transition to the accredited certification process we have today.
