PROFESSIONAL
Current Position:
Director, Parking & Transportation Services
Carnegie Mellon University
Home Base:
Pittsburgh, PA
Reason for Pursuing CAPP Certification:
I began my CAPP journey in 2013. I elected to go through the CAPP program to be among the best in the parking industry—to make an investment in myself professionally and gain additional knowledge of the industry. I wanted Carnegie Mellon to know that I was serious about my profession and making an impact on campus.
Roadblocks or Obstacles Overcome on the Journey to CAPP Certification:
During my CAPP journey, the program was a bit different than it is now and I had to be away from my two children, who at the time were 9 and 12. As a single mother it was difficult being away from my kids during the two to three-day required course studies. Now, the program has been changed so that this is no longer a factor.
Impact the Certification Has Made on Your Career:
The CAPP Certification added value to how I delivered my job responsibilities. After certification, my title changed from Manager to Director, and I expanded my team from 5 to 30.
Best Advice for Those Considering CAPP Certification:
Don’t look at the time you have to put in to receive the CAPP designation – think instead about the networking opportunities within your cohort. It is so important to foster those relationships and to have lifelong friends that know and understand the business
